인물소개

2002년 세계신약학회(StudiorumNovi Testamenti Societas) 회장을 역임한 정상급 영국 신약학자. 글래스고 대학교(M.A.), 케임브리지 대학교(Ph.D., D.D.)에서 공부했으며, 더럼 대학교의 라이트푸트 석좌교수로 은퇴한 뒤 같은 대학에서 라이트푸트 명예교수(EmeritusLightfoot Professor)로 봉직하고 있다. E. P. 샌더스, N. T. 라이트와 함께 바울 신학의 새 관점을 대표하는 학자로서, 바울 신학뿐만 아니라 역사적 예수 연구, 초기 기독교와 유대교 연구 및 기독론과 성령론 등 다양한 주제를 아우르는 폭넓은 연구로 학계에 큰 족적을 남겼다. 이러한 제임스 던의 학술적 업적을 기념하여 2005년(The Holy Spirit and Christian origins: essays in honor of James D. G. Dunn, Eerdmans)과 2010년(Jesus and Paul: Global Perspectives in Honor of James D. G. Dunn for His 70th Birthday, T&T Clark) 두 번에 걸쳐 헌정논문집이 출간되기도 했다. 주요 저서로는 국내에 소개된 '바울 신학'(The Theology of Paul the Apostle), '로마서 상,하: WBC 성경주석'(Word Biblical Commentary: Volume 38A,B), '신약성서의 통일성과 다양성'(Unity and Diversity in the New Testament: An Inquiry into the Character of Earliest Christianity) 외에도 이 책이 속한 생성기 기독교 시리즈의 후속작인 'Beginning from Jerusalem' (Christianity in the Making, vol. 2)과 'The New Perspective on Paul', 'A New Perspective on Jesus: What the Quest for the Historical Jesus Missed', 'Christology in the Making: A New Testament Inquiry Into the Origins of the Doctrine of the Incarnation', 'Jesus, Paul and the Law', 'The Epistles to the Colossians and to Philemon: A Commentary on the Greek Text' (NIGTC), 'The Theology of Paul's Letter to the Galatians' (New Testament Theology), 'The Epistle to the Galatians' (BNTC) 등이 있다.
