인물소개

노르웨이 정치학자로 로머(J. Roemer), 코헨(G. A. Cohen), 쉐보르스키(A. Przeworski) 등과 함께 이른바 ‘분석적 마르크스주의’(Analytical Marxism)를 대표하는 인물이다. 파리 소르본느대학교에서 박사학위를 받고 1970년대 후반부터 활발한 저술활동을 벌여 마르크스주의, 사회과학철학, 합리적 선택이론, 신고전파 경제학, 공공선택이론 등 다양한 분야에 걸쳐 수십 편에 달하는 논문과 저서가 있다. 노르웨이 오슬로대학교 교수, 미국 시카고대학교 교수를 거쳐 현재 미국 컬럼비아대학교 교수로 있다. 노르웨이 과학문학원 회원이며, 미국 예술과학원 회원이다. 대표적인 저서로는 Logic and Society(1978), Ulysses and the Sirens(1979), Sour Grapes(1983), An Introduction to Karl Marx(1986), Nuts and Bolts for the Social Sciences(1989), The Cement of Society(1989), Local Justice(1992), Political Psychology(1993), Addiction: Entries and Exits(1999), Alchemies of the Mind: Rationality and the Emotions(1999), Ulysses Unbound(2000), Closing the books: Transitional Justice in Historical Perspective(2004), Retribution and Reparation in the Transition to Democracy(2006) 등이 있다.
