인물소개

하버드대학교(Harvard University)에서 박사학위를 받고, 노터데임대학교(University of Notre Dame, 1985-91), 하버드대학교(Har­vard University) 및 시카고대학교(University of Chicago, 1991-2000)의 교수직을 포함하여, 예일신학교(Yale Divinity School)의 홈즈 구약 비평 및 구약 해석 교수를 역임했다. 시카고성서연구협회(Chicago Society of Bibli­cal Research, 1995-96), 미국가톨릭성서협회(Catholic Biblical Associ­ation of America, 1996-97), 북미성서학회(Society of Biblical Literature, 2002)의 회장으로 봉직했다. 또한 Dead Sea Discoveries, Journal for the Study of Judaism 및 Journal of Biblical Literature의 편집장으로, 2008년에는 앵커예일바이블시리즈(An­chor Yale Bible Series)의 총괄 편집자로 일했다. 300편이 넘는 논문/학술서 및 대중서를 출판 및 편집했고, 유명한 작품으로는 Between Athens and Jerusalem: Jewish Identity in the Hellenistic Diaspora (1983); Daniel (1993); The Scepter and the Star. The Messiahs of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Other Ancient Literature (1995); The Apocalyptic Imagination: An Introduction to Jewish Apocalyptic Literature (1998); The Bible after Babel: Historical Criticism in a Postmodern Age (2005) 등이 있다.
