인물소개

(1929-2010) 20세기 미국을 대표하는 토미스트 철학자 가운데 하나로, 1955년부터 2009년까지 한평생을 노트르담대학교 철학과 교수로 봉직했다. 마리탱센터 소장과 미국 형이상학회 회장을 역임했고, 질송과 마리탱의 학맥을 이어받아 토미즘을 강력하게 옹호하였다. 대표적 저서로는 New Themes in Christian Philosophy(1969), Thomism in an Age of Renewal(1969), The Logic of Analogy(1971), St. Thomas Aquinas(1977), Being and Predication: Thomistic Interpretation(1986), Boethius and Aquinas(1990), Aquinas on Human Action(1992), Aquinas and Analogy(1999), The Very Rich Hours of Jacques Maritain(2003), Praeambula fidei: Thomism and the God of the Philosophers(2006), I Alone Have Escaped to Tell You: My Life and Pastimes(자서전, 2006) 등이 있다.
